Reclaiming Our Power

Reclaiming Our Power

Naje Badu

A couple of years ago, I took the plunge and had a full natal chart reading. My intention wasn’t to predict my future, but rather to gain insight into the inner thoughts and emotions that didn't quite fit into conventional norms. It was a revelation—a profound shift in my self-awareness that allowed me to understand myself in ways I had never imagined.

The reading illuminated the quirks and nuances that had made me feel like an outsider for so long. What I once saw as flaws were, in reality, unique imprints of my higher self—guiding me toward the fulfillment of my divine purpose. The experience gave me clarity about why I often felt like I didn’t fit into societal molds, within my family, or even in this vast world. My birth chart served as a map to my inner universe, showing me why I perceive the world the way I do. It was a moment of liberation, an invitation to stand fully in my authenticity without apology.

This passage explores the theme of seeking deeper knowledge as an act of radical self-love. Understanding who we are and why we are here grants us the focus and confidence to walk boldly in our divine purpose. Exploring the wisdom of our natal charts, as discussed earlier in this book, is just one of many ways to embark on this path of self-discovery and alignment with our inherent power. Now is the time to uncover the magic within our souls and embrace the divine uniqueness with which we have been gifted.

Before diving deeper, let’s take a moment to reflect on our ancestral lineage. In ancient times, the stars were not just distant lights in the sky but sacred guides, keepers of stories, and channels of spiritual connection. Our ancestors—like many indigenous cultures worldwide—looked to the heavens, the earth, and the rhythms of nature for guidance and understanding. Across history, the people of our lineage have demonstrated an unbreakable bond with the Earth and one another, not as a fleeting occurrence but as the very fabric of their existence.

Our ancestors possessed an innate wisdom of the universe’s natural flow. They lived in harmony with the shifting seasons, celestial movements, and earthly cycles. But their knowledge extended far beyond the tangible. They understood the unseen realms—the spiritual dimensions where dreams and visions were already waiting to align with the physical world.

For them, this knowledge wasn’t a mystical luxury—it was survival, spiritual connection, and the foundation of their daily lives. The Earth was not something to be exploited but a living being deserving of reverence and reciprocity. They knew that the unseen world held the keys to manifestation, where the imagined could become reality.

Community was central to their existence, not just as a social construct but as a reflection of their understanding that everything and everyone was interconnected. The strength of family, community, and tribe was built on shared responsibility, mutual support, and a collective sense of purpose.

While much of this wisdom has been buried beneath the passage of time, modern distractions, and cultural erasure, it continues to call out to our souls. It offers us a way back—a chance to reconnect with the harmony that our ancestors cherished. By reclaiming this legacy, we step into our rightful place in the grand design, aligning with the unseen forces that shape our reality.

History has cast many shadows over our lineage, severing us from our heritage and replacing truth with distortions. Spiritual exile left many disconnected from the wisdom passed down through generations. The knowledge once shared in sacred gatherings became whispers, hidden away. Without these communal reflections, the path to self-discovery grew more difficult. And yet, despite the centuries of displacement, our history is not defined by that singular chapter.

Unfortunately, much of our ancestors’ spiritual practices have been misrepresented, painted as something to be feared or shrouded in misunderstanding. Rituals, astrology, divination, and sacred communion with the spiritual world have been falsely linked to negativity. Many have been taught to distance themselves from their own heritage, believing these practices to be taboo.

What’s particularly profound is that in indigenous traditions, there is no division between the physical and spiritual worlds. Where there is matter, there is spirit. Where there is existence, there is divine energy. Our ancestors knew that spirituality wasn’t just a belief—it was the key to unlocking one’s full potential, the bridge between dreams and reality, and the invisible thread connecting all life.

And now, in this era, something powerful is awakening. A resurgence of ancient wisdom is guiding us back to our strength. More and more women of color are reclaiming their divine insight, tapping into their intuition, and seeking spiritual healing. This is why, throughout this book, the message has remained clear: knowing who we are and embracing our gifts is the greatest power we can wield.

We are beginning to see how indigenous practices offer a path to self-discovery and healing. We are reclaiming the courage to access the wellspring of energy and wisdom that our ancestors once embraced. No longer confined by the external struggles of life, we are turning inward—learning to manifest, align, and transform adversity into strength. We are creating sacred spaces to protect our energy and fortify our spirits against distractions that pull us away from our authentic path.

As we navigate this modern world, we are rediscovering and revitalizing these sacred connections. Though time and circumstance have attempted to sever us from our roots, the wisdom of our ancestors remains, offering us a way forward.

Women of color have carried the weight of historical injustices, often feeling the effects of cultural disconnection. Yet, in this time, something within us is rising. We are excelling not only in education, careers, and entrepreneurship but also in wellness, spirituality, and self-mastery.

Because we are breaking free—both physically and spiritually—returning to the wisdom of our ancestors is more than remembrance; it is reclamation. It is a way to honor our divine power, to recognize that the very essence of our being is sacred and strong. Our connection to the Universe—whether seen as God, Source, Creator, or another name—remains an essential part of this journey.

For centuries, people of Indigenous and diasporic origins have looked to the stars for guidance. Astrology, as our ancestors understood it, was not a mere pastime but a divine language—a sacred tool to understand our place in the universe, to unveil the mysteries of our existence, and to step fully into our purpose.

It is time to remember. To rise. To reclaim the brilliance that has always been ours. The wisdom of our ancestors was never lost—it has been waiting for us to listen. And now, we do.
